Excess litter falls through the large holes on the top layer and is trapped by the soft surface underneath. The bottom layer is made of a plastic, waterproof film that repels urine and odors. The two layers are attached on both sides so you can easily pour the trapped litter back into the litter box. You can also rinse off the mat to clean liquid messes.
