We recommend using Vetericyn prior to the expiration date marked on the label to utilize maximum strength.
What is meant when you say that Vetericyn “tests free”?
This means that Vetericyn contains no ingredients that would result in a positive blood or urine analytical test for non-permitted substances in race or show animals (if ingested or licked). Since there are no banned substances and no steroids or antibiotics, Vetericyn tests free for competitive animals.
Are Vetericyn Plus® Wound and Skin Care products bleach and why is it safe to use?
Vetericyn Plus® Wound and Skin Care products are not and do not contain any bleach. Bleach is corrosive, toxic, will burn, generates fumes/vapors and is not safe for use on the intended applications of Vetericyn. In addition, stabilized bleach has a pH of >11 while Vetericyn Plus® products are manufactured within an appropriate physiological pH range and will not sting when applied. Vetericyn is a hypochlorous solution that is safe and non-toxic and pH balanced. Vetericyn will not harm healthy tissue in the process of cleaning and debriding wounds.
Is Vetericyn Plus® still good if it freezes? How would you know a bottle of Vetericyn Plus® was frozen?
Vetericyn Plus® Liquid formula can freeze and thaw without hurting the effectiveness of the product. If a bottle was frozen you will notice leaking as a result of expansion of the formula. The bottle walls may collapse after thawing out or evidence of ice may be noticeable within the solution.
Can Vetericyn Plus® be used with another product, medicine, or therapeutic products?
Vetericyn Plus® is to be used per label indications. Vetericyn has no known contraindications and no known negative drug interactions. If you need to apply other remedies like fly repellents, we recommend that you apply Vetericyn first and wait at least 60 seconds before applying any other materials. After consulting or treating with Vetericyn, we recommend that you advise your healthcare professional (veterinarian) of any treatment protocol you are following in addition to those recommended by the veterinarian. Vetericyn is not intended for use on systemic conditions.
Why is it significant that Vetericyn Plus® contains no antibiotics?
The fact that Vetericyn Plus® does not contain antibiotics means that there is no need to be concerned about the animal building up resistance to our Vetericyn Plus® products. Antibiotic resistance is a concern in the animal industry. The repeated and extended use of Vetericyn in cleaning and debriding the wound bed has no adverse consequences. In addition, if there are regulatory limitations for use of antibiotics, those limitations do not apply to Vetericyn Plus® products.
Can Vetericyn Plus® wound and skin care products be transferred to another bottle for application?
The transfer or decanting of Vetericyn products is not recommended due to the possibility of contamination and the ingredients being neutralized by coming in contact with the new container’s materials.
What is the difference between Vetericyn Plus® Wound and Skin Care available in stores and Vetericyn Plus® VF available through my veterinarian?
Vetericyn VF formulations have a higher concentration of ingredients in comparison to OTC Vetericyn products found in stores. The Vetericyn VF formulations are only sold to licensed veterinarians and can only be obtained from such.
What is the difference between Vetericyn Plus® Wound and Skin care and Vetericyn Wound and Infection Spray?
As part of our regulatory compliance efforts and our continual improvement process, from time to time we find ourselves in the need to change narratives or statements found on our product labels, website, and marketing materials. Recently, for example, Wound and Infection Care changed to Wound and Skin Care. These specific changes to the narratives on the labels and other materials in no way altered or modified our formulas, their concentrations, safety, or efficacy. All Vetericyn products are safe, effective, and continue to be of the highest quality.
What makes Vetericyn Plus® Wound and Skin Care unique from other animal wound cleansers/dressings?
Vetericyn Plus® Wound and Skin Care products are unique from other animal wound cleansers/dressings because of their safety profile. They are safe for use on all animal species regardless of age and condition. Vetericyn Plus® Wound and Skin Care is non-corrosive, non-toxic, non-irritating, non-staining, and safe to use on or around the eyes, nose and mouth. Vetericyn Plus® does not harm healthy tissue and does not contain steroids, alcohol, tea tree oil or antibiotics. Vetericyn Plus® is biodegradable and environmentally friendly. Vetericyn Plus® Wound and Skin Care products are pH-balanced and are shelf-stable. It can be easily applied with no mixing or dilution required and does not require rinsing after use.
Vetericyn Plus® Wound and Skin Care has a faint chlorine smell. When applied to an open wound, isn’t the chlorine painful to the animal?
While there is a slight chlorine odor, there is a proprietary amount of Free Active Chlorine (FAC) measured in parts per million which is not significant enough to cause stinging when applied.
Can you use Vetericyn Plus® Wound and Skin Care for the ear or eye?
Vetericyn Plus® Wound and Skin care products can be used on wounds and issues of the ear. As it pertains to the eye, we recommend the use of the Vetericyn Plus® line of eye products. Not all of the products have specific indications for the eye.
